We have had a great week getting back into the swing of things, after being closed due to Hurricane Irma, and are so happy to be back with all our friends! Today we had the pleasure of being a part of the Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation of Florida, Inc. ribbon cutting ceremony, marking the start of their services in Citrus County, which of course included free hearing evaluations for our children. The foundation also offers financial assistance for low to moderate income children for screenings, hearing devices, and ongoing maintenance of those devices. Thank you for including us in your ribbon cutting ceremony, and for offering this much needed service to Citrus County, Florida.
It's hard to believe that we are approaching the half way mark of our summer program; we have had so much fun! From three-legged races to watching movies in our pajamas and learning through technology to setting up our campsite, we have stayed busy, learned important lessons, and had lots of fun. We are very excited for the second half of the summer, and all the fun games, activities and lessons to come!
We did a lot of fun activities, and learned about so many different things during this week's camping week activities. One of the most important lessons of the week, a skill that's needed in so many aspects of our lives, was teamwork. We learned this important lesson through setting up our campsites, a nature scavenger hunt, art projects and games. Today, all the lessons and activities came together while playing a very special team building game. For this game we split up into five teams. Each team was given a t-shirt that had been maticously folded, soaked in water, then frozen solid. Each team was then instructed to pick a team member that would wear the shirt, once it was thawed and unfolded. Each team was also given one small bucket. The winner was the first team to thaw, unfold, and dress their chosen team member in the shirt. This is where the magic began! The ideas started to fly, and it wasn't long before someone thought of using the small buckets to get water to help thaw the shirts. We heard yells of put it in the sun, sit on it, hug it, and all manner of great ideas. We were so proud of all our teams! They were problem solving and working together to accomplish the task at hand. Even after a winner was declared, all the other teams continued working hard until each and every t-shirt was thawed and being worn by the chosen ones. These are the kind of days teachers dream of!
The results are in! For our last day of wacky week, we had an all day water day and tie dyed t-shirts. Today, for our camping week grand finale, not only did we have an all day water day, but we also got to reveal the results of our tie dyeing project. We're happy to say, everyone loves their t-shirts and enjoyed showing them off to their friends!
Crazy hair day has been, CRAZY! We began with a surprise birthday party for Mr. Kevin, then our artists got busy with face painting. Afterwords, the teachers and their helpers finished up by dying everyone's hair with some crazy colors! What a fun morning!
What a crazy day! Starting with some crazy, mismatched socks and shoes, then reading a fox in socks, and making wacky sock puppets; everyone has had a blast!
To coin an Oprah Winfrey quote, "Biology is the least of what makes one a father." We are so happy that it's finally official! Congratulations Smith family, we love you and are thankful your part of the Playcare family too!
