Water day? How about water week! For the first week of summer, we get to do one of everyone's favorite summer activities everyday. You just have to remember the rules: No pushing, don't spray your friends in the face, the green water balloons get thrown at Miss Amanda, and the blue water balloons get thrown at Miss Karen! With splash pools, water balloons, sprinklers, water squirters, bubbles, slides and games, it has been one FUN week!
Oh, the Places You'll Go! We are so proud of our VPK class this year! It has been a true privilege for each and every one of us to be involved in the growth and education of this amazing group of children. Whether it be a heavy equipment operator, teacher, doctor, paleontologist, detective or chef, our VPK graduates have the potential to conquer the world. So, in the words of the great Dr. Suess, "be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea, You're off the Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!" We would also like to thank all of our VPK families for being exceptional partners in your child's education this year, we could not have done it without you. We hope everyone enjoyed our end of year pancake breakfast celebration, diplomas, books, artwork, and pictures. We love you all!
We have the best kids here at Playcare, and we love them all! Unfortunately, their time with us is short. One of our students, who has been a part of our lives for several years, has graduated to middle school and will no longer be attending. She is amazingly smart, helpful, a talented artist and always brightens our day. Thank you for the painting and beautiful words Randi, we love you and will miss you!
We want to say a big thank you to Ashley Bartram, of Bartram Racing, for bringing us donuts, autographed pictures of the race car and spending the morning with us! Everyone loved it! We are glad your a part of the Playcare family and can't thank you enough for all your support!
Playing with a parachute is not only a lot of fun, it is one of our favorite group games. It teaches teamwork and cooperation, along with increasing strength, agility, coordination and endurance.
As promised, we welcomed two very special visitors at Playcare today; our good friend Miss Michelle, from HOPE Wildlife Rehabilitation, and Spencer, the Barred Owl! Miss Michelle began our lesson with a few bird puppets, to help us learn all about the birds we see everyday. We learned about Woodpeckers and how they live in a hole in a tree. We learned about Northern Cardinals and how the feathers on the top of their heads are called tufts. We learned about Eastern Bluebirds a...nd how they like to make their nests in man-made houses. We learned about Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and how their wings beat 80 times a second. Best of all, we learned about Owls, with a little help from Spencer! We learned that owls are nocturnal, that they use sound to triangulate their prey as they hunt, that they have 14 vertebrae in their neck, compared to our 7, that they have hooked beaks they use like we use knives and forks, that they grind their food in their gizzard and spit out the left over bone and fur, that they have sharp talons they use to catch their food and that they are from a family of birds called Birds-of-Prey. We also learned about Miss Michelle's job as a wildlife rehabilitator; rescuing and taking care of sick and injured birds until they are strong enough to be released back into the wild. Thank you Miss Michelle and Spencer for visiting us and taking the time to teach us about the birds we see around us everyday!
