We had the opportunity to welcome two great community helpers today, Firefighter Bill and Miss Michelle. Firefighter Bill taught us some very important lessons on fire safety, and showed us some of the protective equipment firefighters use. We learned how to dial 9-1-1, and what to say; my house is on fire, the fire is in the kitchen. We learned about smoke detectors; how they sound and why every home needs at least one. We learned what to do if our clothes catch fire; stop, drop, and roll. We learned that we should crawl to exit a building that is on fire, and practiced by doing a fire drill. We also learned that we need a fire plan and to do fire drills at home; check the batteries in our smoke detectors, exit the house safely, have a designated meeting spot, and call or yell for help. After the great lesson, Miss Michelle gave our kids fire safety activity books, and a certificate of merit for learning the rules of fire safety, courtesy of Smoke Divers MC of Citrus County. Playcare is also providing all our students with a smoke detector to take home with them today, and we encourage all of our families to install them right away. The Citrus County Fire Department will even come out and install them for you, free of charge, if you are unable to do so! Thank you Firefighter Bill and Miss Michelle for being such amazing community helpers, and for taking the time to share with us! Also, don't forget that our community helpers lesson on firefighters continues next Monday with our trip to the Inverness Fire Department!
